Unique Dog Collars For Trendy Dogs

March 19th, 2008

Any responsible dog owner must have a dog collar for their beloved companion. Dog collars do have an important practical purpose. They not only hold your dog’s identification tags but they also have a loop for a dog leash. All areas of the United States have different ID tags and leash laws, which makes the dog collar an essential dog product. With the expanding pet supply market, there are unique dog collars for every taste and price range. The old school thought that dog collars have to be dull and boring is long gone. Fancy dog collars are all the rage and do not seem to be going out of style any time soon. Celebrity dog owners have had a huge impact on the pet industry. Fashion dog collars are seen in almost every picture or show featuring a celebrity with a dog. Their dogs have actually become an accessory and well known in their own right.

You can find stunning jeweled dog collars that will make any dog look absolutely gorgeous. You can make your dog stand out with unique and fashionable rhinestone dog collars and leashes. Just like you change you clothes or your look to express your personality, you can express your dog’s personality with a unique dog collar. You can find quality dog collars in a wide range of prices. Depending on what you are looking for and how often you want to change your dog’s collar, you may what to go for a low price or very pricey collar. Most reputable pet supply stores will give you a large selection of colors and prices.

When shopping for a dog collar, check the sizing chart carefully to ensure a perfect fit for your pet. Do not assume that your dog wears a certain size collar. Each manufacturer has a different set of sizing criteria. Besides looking attractive, every dog collar needs to be safe and comfortable. That is why measuring for a collar is extremely important. Measure around your dog’s neck, put two fingers under the tape measurer, then add a couple of inches to that number. Keep in mind that dog collars usually come in even number sizes. Go up in size if your dog’s neck measurement is an odd number. Remember that collars vary in width. Make sure that you keep the length of your dog’s neck in mind when making a selection.

You can still find high quality leather dog collars if a fancy dog collar isn’t your thing. But if you want to take a walk on the trendy side, a variety of unique dog collars are available at all prices. You can choose a different color collar for everyday of the week or one exquisitely eye catching designer dog collar. There are so many fantastic collars available. It’s your dog and it’s your choice!

Animals For Adoption 04

March 11th, 2008

When you think about the number of pets that are put to sleep every year because no one wants them, it almost makes your heart break. With all the animals for adoption out there, many people still do not know about how to get in touch with these lovable pets in need. Many of them still go to commercial breeders when a brief stop by the Humane Society or some other animal rescue could save the life of a dog or cat, and give them a treasured companion.

The first animal for adoption that I took in to my home was a puppy I named Bowser. At the time, our school was doing a project to support the world wildlife fund. They had adopt an animal programs to help protect endangered species. While these were not literally animals for adoption, they were animals you could help protect by donating money and increasing popular support for protecting their habitats. It got me thinking about animals around my neighborhood, and I asked my mom if I could get a pet dog from the Humane Society. She was a little bit nervous about getting dogs for adoption, never having been a pet owner herself, but when I agreed to take care of the dog, she relented.

It turns out that there were many different animals for adoption available in our town. I think my mom had been picturing a room filled with pathetic, mangy, aggressive dogs, but the pets in the animal rescue shelter were actually very friendly for the most part. There were a lot of different dogs there, and it took me quite a while to pick out the one that I wanted. Finally, I fell in love with a spotted puppy who looked like he had some Dalmatian in him. I took him home that very day

Since then, all of my pets have been animals for adoption. After all, I can’t justify buying a pet when there are so many critters that are abandoned every year. Many people are too lazy to pay or neuter their pets, while others adopt a dog only to abandon it a year or two later when it is no longer a puppy. Because of this, many unwanted dogs are put to sleep instead of getting to live full lives in a caring home. It is nice to be able to do my little part to counter this trend.

Springer Spaniel Puppies 04

March 10th, 2008

When I grew up, my uncle kept springer spaniels around the barn. Not only were they great farm dogs – smart, obedient, and hard-working – but they were also a lot of fun to play with. When my kids asked for springer spaniel puppies, however, I was a little bit hesitant at first. I have always believed that work dogs should be given work. This is not a matter of morality, but simply a matter of understanding their temperament. There are some breeds that are happy to play all day, And other ones that are happy to just lie around. Spaniel dog breeds, however, need to be put to work. Springer spaniel puppies get bored if they are not given something to do, you see, and become depressed and bad tempered.

When I saw a sign for puppies for sale, however, I immediately took my kids there. I didn’t even think about it. I knew that they each wanted a springer spaniel puppy, but I did not know that these were among the puppies that were being sold. After all, we weren’t going to a springer spaniel breeder, and purebred puppies are hard to find. Nonetheless, I was surprised when several of them turned out to be English springer spaniel puppies. One of them looked almost exactly like the dog that I had grown up with! When I saw them and I saw the looks on my kid’s faces, my heart instantly melted. I could not say no anymore. Each of them came home with their own springer spaniel puppy.

Raising the springer spaniel puppies was hard work. I told them that they could have them on the one condition that they raised them as I told them to. They agreed with me, not quite realizing how much work raising puppies was. This is one of the reasons that pets are so popular. Not only do kids like them, but adults value the responsibility that they teach the children. Raising springer spaniel puppies meant that they had to take them for walks every single day after school. Sometimes, this was a lot of fun, but other times it was a big inconvenience. No matter what kind of mood they were in, however, each of my kids had to take a Springer spaniel puppy for a walk. We got to watch them grow up into well-trained, well behaved dogs. This was a joy for all of us.

Heartgard Plus Chewable 14

March 7th, 2008

Preventative medicine is incredibly important. Most of us take vitamins and some prescription medications in order to prevent health problems. Doing the same for man’s best friend only makes sense. With a Heartgard plus chewable tablet you can keep your dog safe from heartworm disease. These once-a-month beef flavored tablets could save you and your pet a lot of anguish.

Your veterinarian is someone you should try and get your dog to on a regular basis. All canines need a check-up at least once a year. During this visit, the vet is likely going to administer an injection that protects your dog from many common diseases. It’s during these visits that you can ask about heartworm disease and the risk it poses to your dog. Asking about the effectiveness of Heartgard plus chewable tablets should be done as well. If it’s decided this is a good idea for your pet, the vet will give you a prescription.

Filling the prescription can be done any number of ways. The best approach to take is to research available outlets online and their prices for Heartgard plus chewable tablets. You’d be surprised by how much prices actually do vary and how large of a savings you can enjoy if you buy the Heartgard for dogs tablets in a six-month or one-year supply as opposed to a single month.

Many pet owners have no idea of how common this illness is and how it can impact their dog. If the condition isn’t treated a dog can die. When a person realizes that by giving their dog a Heartgard for dogs tablet once a month, they could have prevented the death, it’s easy to see why they are such an important part of caring for your pet.

Giving your dog this important pill couldn’t be easier. With the beef flavor of the tablets your dog is likely going to beg for more after they get the one. You can either give it in their food or separately but be certain that they have indeed eaten it right up. Store the other pills away, out of the reach of the dog, until you need them again, exactly one month later.

Puppies are also prone to this illness so don’t wait to ask the veterinarian about it. It’s a good idea to inquire as soon as you see the vet after purchasing the puppy. The sooner your dog starts taking Heartgard plus chewable tablets, the less risk he or she has of contracting this life-threatening disease. Keeping your puppy healthy means it will be a part of your family for many, many years.

Puppies For Sale 19

March 3rd, 2008

Are you the kind of person that believes in fate? I have always been quite spiritual. I was raised in a Christian home and going to regular church services and be involved in our faith community became an important part of my life. This is a tradition that I have continued into my adult life and with my children. Part of my beliefs is that everything happens for a reason. I do not always see that at the time it is occurring, however upon reflection I can make the links.

A near tragedy, which changed my daughter’s life forever, can be linked to a fateful day when she saw a puppies for sale sign in a yard two blocks from our home. My daughter has always loved dogs. We had a hunting dog that was getting quite old. My husband and I knew that we were not going to have him as part of the family for much longer, but we did not know how we were going to break this news to our daughter. She was ten years old at the time and much attached to the dog that was eleven years old. She came home from school one day very excited because she saw a puppies for sale sign in a neighbor’s yard. She had seen the sing from the school bus window. She wanted to know if we could go see the puppies. I told her that her father only bought dogs that were registered and that we had not idea what kind of puppies the neighbors had for sale. The people that had the puppies for sale were new to the neighborhood so we did not know them or what breed of dog they owned. She pled to go see the puppies. I promised her we would walk over after supper and see them. I convinced her to help me make a batch of cookies so we could take them along to welcome the family into the neighborhood.

We went to the house that had the puppies for sale and knocked on the door. You could hear dogs barking and a baby crying but no one came to the door. We rang the bell several times and then knocked on the door. I was concerned because the child crying sounded frantic. I looked in the side window by the door and saw a woman lying on the floor. I tried the door and it was opened. The woman was obviously pregnant and unconscious. The telephone was lying on the floor next to her. In a ply pen was her 12 month old son crying. In another playpen was a mother dog with seven puppies. I called 911 and within minutes the paramedics arrived and delivered that baby in front of us. My daughter was awestruck. The woman’s husband was out of town on business and not due back until the next day. She had struck her head when she fell. The doctor’s told her that if we had not come over she and the baby most likely would have died. The puppies for sale sign saved her life.

Chocolate Labrador 33

March 1st, 2008

Many families with children think about getting pets, but may put the idea on the back burner trying to think about which type of pet would be safe and fun for children in play. Here’s a true story that may help you make your choice.

In my childhood, the pet beloved by all in the neighborhood was Benny the chocolate Labrador. Benny had a sweet disposition, absolutely loved children and provided hours of fun and entertainment with his love of water, usually in the form of sprinklers and a bunch of kids.

Benny came from a long line of water loving dogs, rejoicing in a lake where he could practice his swimming and diving abilities. Benny’s ancestry bred an instinct of compassion and protectiveness towards people. Benny was so smart and sensitive.

There was a blind lady who lived down the street, and Benny always seemed to know when she ventured out with her cane to make her way to the mailbox. He’d stand by her side, in all his chocolate Labrador beauty, tail fluffy and friendly, guiding her along her way. Benny was the angel of chocolate Labradors. Even the color of his coat was comforting and lovable.

You may not know that the Labrador is the most popular family pet in the United States. They have gentle dispositions, are easy to train, of an obedient nature, loving and friendly, with an intelligent and companionable personality. These dogs learn quickly and respond enthusiastically to praise for their good deeds. Perhaps because of my own memories, the chocolate Labrador is so especially appealing, with all these wonderful characteristics.

They are watchdogs, but not necessarily guard dogs. They’ll let you know when a stranger approaches, but these are not attack dogs.

There is that soft spot in the heart for the chocolate Labrador, that just doesn’t go away. In the world of dog shows, it’s still a matter of controversy as to the color of the chocolate Labrador. To attain “show” quality, the chocolate Labrador must be pure in the chocolate coloring, without tan spots or brindling, of the pure chocolate Labrador shade. It seems a bit silly to be literally “splitting hairs” in the assessment of a good family pet.

If you’re debating which animal might make a good companion for your family, look in to the Labrador. Who knows that you might find another Benny, the chocolate Labrador who makes the perfect addition to your family?

Small Dog

March 1st, 2008

Small Dog

My husband and I decided that one day when we own our own home we would get a dog. The problem is that I am pretty sure that he will want to get something like a gold retriever. Though I think they are great dogs, I will most likely want a small dog like the one that my mom has. I love my mom’s dog, and I can’t imagine having a huge dog running around my house. Though I think I would fall in love with any dog at first site, I do hope I can find a small one that we can all agree upon.

The small dog my mom has sits very easily in my lap, and she will sit there for hours if I am watching a movie with my parents. She is easy to deal with, and she doesn’t rip my arms off when I am taking her for a walk. Though for a small dog, she sure does have some strength when she is finally let outside. My mom has a bad back so she can’t take her out as often as she wants to. When she does get out, she goes nuts.

I think my husband likes my mom’s small dog, but I’m not sure he will agree when I tell him that I want us to get one. One of the biggest reasons I think it would be the best idea to get a small dog is because we have cats. My cats are not used to dogs, and I think they would be able to get used to a small dog a lot quicker than they would a larger dog. A large dog that runs around the house in great excitement might just be too much for them.

I may or may not get my small dog, but I think I will love any dog that we end up getting. I love my cats, but there is room in our family for a dog as well. My cats won’t like it, but they will just have to get used to it. Small dog or big dog, it doesn’t matter as long as we have one that we can love. My daughter is looking forward to the day that we can have a dog, and no matter what my husband or I think, she may end up being the her choice in the end. Who can tell a young girl now when a puppy steals her heart?

Animals For Sale 19

February 29th, 2008

Have you ever noticed how different personalities can be even amongst our own children? I have a son and two daughters. My son is the oldest and as with many oldest in a family he is very responsible and a high achiever. Our oldest daughter is very soft spoken and kind hearted. She is constantly reaching out to anyone or anything in need. Our youngest daughter is hell on wheels. She is a dare devil and thrill seeker. There are times when my husband and I joke that if she had been our first born we would only have one child. She was able to get out of her crib by age nine months. She has never wanted to miss out on one minute of anything that is going on around her.

Although their personalities are very different from one another the children get along very well. One thing that they all share is their love of animals. They are the only children I know of that actually pooled their money and watched the news paper for ads for animals for sale so that they could buy them. We were lucky that we had a large garden shed and a large yard to accommodate all the animals for sale ads that the three of them answered. I also love animals so I did not discourage them from getting the animals; however I did start to realize that the food for the menagerie of pets was starting to cost more than our grocery budget. We had three rabbits, two dogs, four cats a parakeet, many fish and a turtle. My main rule was that there were to be no reptiles in the house. I did not mind the turtle, but I refused to have snakes, lizards or and other crawling reptile.

One night I was especially tired and was sitting in front of the television fighting to stay awake. I remember that my son was reading the sale ads and mentioned that there were cool animals for sale in this week’s addition of the local paper. I think I dosed off as he was talking. I remember getting up from the chair and saying that I needed to go to bed. He asked me something else and I know I mumbled a reply. The next day when I got home from work my husband and all three kids were out by the garden shed. I could see that they were looking into a large cage. I parked the car and walked towards them. In the cage were three ferrets. Our son was explaining to his father that I had told him he could get them. My sons said he had asked me last night while I was watching television and I had said yes. I explained to him that I was half asleep and that I would never have agreed to add three ferrets to the family if I had been awake. That night the children had to develop their own animals for sale ad for the paper.
